Fatal As 5 Died In Accident Along The Abeokuta- Ibadan Expressway

The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Saturday said that five persons died while 14 others sustained various degrees of injuries in an accident involving two vehicles at Odeda town, along Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway.

Mr Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commandant of FRSC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun, that the accident happened at about 9.20p.m on Friday.

The sector commandant said that 19 persons were involved in the accident that resulted in the death of five persons, while 14 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The corpses of the victims had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaye, Ogun, while the survivors were also receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun.” he said.

He also implored passengers and the general public that noticed vehicles driving recklessly to contact the Corps through the FRSC toll free number 122.

GTBank Nominates Nigeria’s Great Footballers

Goal in partnership with GTBank have chosen four players who will forever be held in high regard by many Nigeria fans

It’s almost an impossible task selecting the best of the best amongst the Super Eagles, but Goal narrowed it to these four stars.

Stephen Keshi

Keshi was one of the most influential captains in the history of the Super Eagles. He was the team’s captain when Nigeria qualified for the global showpiece in USA before helping his team win the 1994 continental crown.

Nwankwo Kanu

The former Arsenal man is undoubtedly one of the most successful footballers to have come out of Nigeria.

He may have fallen short of winning the continental title with the Super Eagles after losing the 2000 Africa games to Cameroon, but Kanu remains a recognisable face who gave his all for his country.

Kanu won many league titles at different teams he played for, but the greatest success was winning the African Footballer of the Year twice between 1996 and 1999.

No other Nigerian player has won the accolade twice more than once.

Jay-Jay Okocha

Okocha is renowned for his majestic dribbling skills and creativity as a midfielder.

However, he was more than just a dribbling wizard; he was a team player who contributed to the success of the Super Eagles.

What makes him a special and rare talent was his world-class free-kick technique, and it is for this reason and many others he he won many individual accolades, and major trophies as a player.

Okocha was named Nigerian Footballer of the Year a record seven times between 1995 and 2005.

He also won Africa’s elite competition with the Super Eagles in 1994 before falling short of his second continental crown in 2000.

John Obi Mikel

Mikel is a Uefa Champions League and Uefa Europa League winner with Chelsea, but his contribution to the African football is unquestionable.

He contributed immensely to the team’s success at the 2013 finals in South Africa, Nigeria’s second continental title.

In 2016, Mikel showed just why he is among the best players to have come out of Nigeria when he inspired the nation to a third-place finish at the Olympic Games.

Mikel rose to prominence in 2005 when he was named African Young Player of the Year, the accolade he again scooped in 2006.

Kizz Daniel Sues Vanguard News

Fly Boy Inc label boss Kizz Daniel has slammed a 100 Million Naira lawsuit on Vanguard Newspapers over a ‘malicious publication’, where the singer had called out the newspaper and also denied granting an interview which stated that he verbally attacked celebrities for protesting against COZA pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo, who is currently being accused of rape by Busola Dakolo as well as some other women and former church members.

Different media outfits had published a report where Kizz Daniel allegedly said Wizkid was the only person who had a brain and other celebrities who had written against pastor Biodun were brainless.

Kizz Daniel, in a letter written to Vanguard through his lawyers, demands a public apology and withdrawal of the publication, a written undertaking not to publish anything about him without confirmation and the sum of 100 million naira to cover for reputational damage he has already suffered

Cardi B Details How Much Money She Makes On Tour

Cardi B fans are upset that the star hasn’t announced a headlining summer tour and they’ve been flooding her mentions, asking why she decided not to head out on the road. The new mom has remained active on social media and when it comes to her musical releases, she’s still on top.

Yesterday, the rapper took to her Instagram profile to co-sign a few of her favourite femcees, including Tierra Whack, Rapsody, Chika, and Kamaiyah in an effort to prove that not all women are rapping about sex, scamming and their bodies. The star also ranted about why she wasn’t going on tour, explaining that it’s just not the right time for her to get that kind of bag.

In the since-deleted post, Cardi B reportedly detailed exactly how much money she would be set to make on tour. As reported by Daily Mail, Cardi broke down the reasoning behind her decision not to tour. She shared a spreadsheet with expenses and her income, telling her supporters, “I find it so funny that people that ARE NOT FANS have the biggest concerns on why haven’t I done a tour. Welp because here you go, let me break it down for you.”

Kevin Winter/Getty Images
The “Bodak Yellow” songstress went into specifics, explaining just how much she would net from a tour. “Let’s say if I go on tour and I do 600K a night right… sounds good but let’s get in the touring business shall we?

Stage production gotta be massive since the fans pay massive so just on stage and production, I’ll be left with like 150k a night.” Bardi said that her stage, hair, makeup, costuming and more production costs would be over $300K so she doesn’t see why she would take to the road.

$150K per night sounds like a lot of money to you and I but for Cardi B, she thinks she could finesse her way into making a little more before committing to a long touring process.

Things Woman In Their 30s Should Do Before Pregnancy

Dr Theodore Yakubu, an Abuja based gynaecologist, has advised women above age 35, with intention of becoming mothers to seek medical advice before conception.

Yakubu gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.
According to him, as a woman gets older, there is an increased risk of pregnancy related complications and health problems faced by both mother and child.

Yakubu noted that the complications occurred due to changes in the reproductive system and increased general health problem associated with age such as obesity and diabetes.

The expert also said that complications were eminent because the older body was less supple and flexible which increased the chance of giving birth to a baby with congenital abnormality such as down-syndrome, among others.
He explained that an older woman’s uterus was less hospitable to the changes of pregnancy and thereby could cause premature labor.

“Pregnancy in older women is associated with high risk of general health problems such as high blood pressure and miscarriage especially in women above 35 years.
“There is also the risk of having twins which itself is associated with elevated risk of complications.
“Old age pregnancy is associated with risk of complications during delivery, such as prolonged labour as well as still birth and placenta problems,’’ he said.

The gynaecologist however admonished older women planning conception to be fully informed, maintain a healthy weight as well eat healthy diet in order to curb complications associated with it.
Yakubu also suggested administering of daily 400mg of folic acid before and during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy in order to prevent birth defects.

He further noted that careful medical monitoring; appropriate medication starting from conception and throughout pregnancy would help reduce the risk associated with old age pregnancy.

He therefore enjoined older women planning conception or pregnancy to ensure that their health was in an optimal position, saying that it is key in managing the pregnancy as well as safe delivery.

Buhari Government Asked To Stop BBNaija 2019 Reality Show Immediately

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has attacked the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing the Big Brother Naija reality TV show go on.

The Islamic group labelled the show being aired on national television as ‘immoral, dangerous and Bohemian.’

BB Naija, is currently making waves in Nigeria featuring some romantic scenes among the housemates.

The group’s objection was contacted in a press statement made available to DAILY POST by its Founder and Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Friday.

The statement added, “We are being forcibly dragged to a world of nudity, shamelessness and open promiscuity. Inmates of BBNaija kiss, romance and engage in sex openly. BBNaija is Bohemian, anti-social, crude and immoral. It constitutes a potent danger to every home. BBNaija is Satanic. It is unacceptable.

“Where are our norms and values? Is it part of African culture to engage in sex in the open? Where are the authorities? Is the Ministry of Information and Culture sleeping? Is the National Orientation Agency on sabbatical? Who will protect our children from this despicable onslaught? Who did this to Nigeria?

“This reality show is dragging our children into a life of moral debauchery. It is robbing them of the last vestiges of honour. It is deleting the word ‘shame’ from their vocabulary. BB Naija has alienated our youth from the elders. A yawning lacuna now exists between the young and the old. Irreversible social crisis looms.

“We must see those who woo our young ones with humongous amounts of money, big cars and palatial buildings as those bent on destroying industry, diligence and integrity particularly among the youth. Nothing destroys a nation faster than materialism. The daughters of Jezebel are here already. Unless the authorities move with the speed of lightning, human dignity in Nigeria is going, going, going!

“Or do we not realize that for every single BB Naija inmate who wins big amount of money and a car, more than 50 million young people are misled? Qur’an 30:41 says, ‘Evil has appeared on both land and sea as a result of the handiworks of men…’ The Bible in Ephesians 4:19 was also describing these people when it says, ‘Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.’

“Already, the desperate quest for wealth by all means has gripped Nigerian youth like hay fever. It has railroaded them into Yahoo Yahoo, ritual killings and a museum mentality for the collection of female panties. Where exactly are we going?

“This development calls for serious concern and we are deeply concerned because we are the Muslim Rights Concern. Our hearts bleed in MURIC. This is the kind of evil that Muslim and Christian leaders should unite to fight with all their strength instead of dissipating their energy on a phantom Islamisation, a mirage called Fulanisation, Maradonic religiousity and gymnastic spirituality

“We can put an end to this anomaly called BB Naija if Christians and Muslims bury the hatchet and come together to fight evil. Home is home. Moral debauchery knows no religion. The destructive influence of television shows like BB Naija penetrates both Christian and Muslim homes.

“Ditto for the custodians of our culture and tradition. Our traditional rulers ignore a program like this which has all the potentials to diminish the dignity of our culture. They are fighting over who should be chairman of the Council of traditional rulers. They want to be the King of kings and rivals of the Supreme Creator. Who placed a curse on Nigeria?

“Homo sapiens may not respect a single snake when they see one. But can anyone wait to see what follows if the cobra leads and it is faithfully followed by the python, the black mamba, rattle snake, garter snake and the anaconda? So what do you think will happen if our traditional rulers from the East, West and North march on Aso Rock to demand the immediate halt of this horrible show?

To cap the edifice, MURIC calls for immediate and total ban on this satanic television show. We charge the Ministry of Information and Culture to move swiftly against BB Naija before moral debauchery becomes Nigeria’s middle name.

Nigerian youth must be protected from themselves and the time to do so is now. We invite the National Assembly to intervene immediately and we appeal to traditional rulers to add their voices to this campaign.”

Nigeria Excluded As South Africa Grants Ghana And Other Countries Visa-Free Entries

The Department of Home Affairs says the country’s new eVisa system will launch in November 2019, and it has added new nations to the list of countries that can enter South Africa visa-free.

According to a report by Business Tech and tweeted via the unverified Twitter handle of Home Affairs @HomeAffairsSA on Wednesday, seven new countries can now visit South Africa visa-free.

The report quoted the South African Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, as having announced that seven new countries will be added to the list of nations that are able to come to South Africa without a visa

“Tourism will soar if we relax visa requirements for entry into South Africa. We know that tourism is very important for job creation,” he said.

“Out of the 193 countries who are member states of the United Nations, the Department has granted visa-free status to 75 countries. Of these, 16 are in our continent and are SADC (Southern African Development Community) members and 59 are from all over the world.”

The department announced that the following countries will now be able to enter the country, visa-free:

Qatar, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Cuba,
Ghana, Sao Tome and Principe

The minister said his office will immediately enter into discussions with the countries about how a visa-free regime will work, with “homework” still needing to be done for countries like China, India and Nigeria.

“While we are busy tackling the matter of the three countries, we shall, this financial year, increase two and a half times the number of people who work for Home Affairs to process visas in both China and India.

“We shall double the number of people who process visas to our country in Nigeria,” he said.

A department spokesperson said that the countries announced by the minister only apply to inbound visas (citizens from the listed countries visiting South Africa), and that outbound visas (South Africans visiting the countries listed) need to be negotiated on a country-by-country basis.

The department noted that some countries, such as Qatar and Ghana, already have visa-free or visa on arrival agreements with South Africa.

According to the latest Henley Passport Index, South Africans can visit 99 countries around the globe visa-free.

Also speaking at the department’s budget vote, deputy minister of Home Affairs, Njabulo Nzuza said that the department is moving forward with the implementation of the country’s e-Visa regime.

“This regime will place technology at the centre of our operations by making it easy, yet secure, to enter South Africa,” he told Business Tech.

The e-Visa system will allow tourists and visitors to South African apply for their visas online. These applications will then be sent to a central adjudication and approval office, while the prospective visitors “sit at the comfort of their own home.”

The new system will also open South Africa as a desirable destination through the ease of its visa systems, the deputy minister said, adding that it will have huge tourism growth implications for the country.

The e-Visa regime is anticipated to be fully introduced in November 2019.

CBN Standing Deposit Facility Not To Exceed 2bn

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said the remunerable daily placements by banks at the Standing Deposit Facility will not exceed N2bn.

It stated this in a circular, titled ‘Guidelines on accessing the CBN Standing Deposit Facility’,which was signed by the Director, Financial Markets Department, Angela Sere-Ejembi, and sent to all banks on Wednesday.

The bank said, “With reference to the circular to all banks and discount houses, Re: Guidelines on accessing the CBN Standing Deposit Facility, Ref: FMD/DIR/GEN/CIR/05/020 and dated November 6, 2014, after further review, the remunerable daily placements by banks at the SDF shall not exceed N2bn.

“The SDF deposit of N2bn shall be remunerated at the interest rate prescribed by the Monetary Policy Committee from time to time.

Any deposit by a bank in excess of N2bn shall not be remunerated.
The provisions of this circular took effect on July 11, 2019.

In the November 6, 2014 circular, the CBN observed that banks and discount houses had preference for keeping their idle balances at the CBN in the SDF, thereby constraining the process of financial intermediation.

In order to encourage the banks to increase lending to the productive sector of the economy, the guidelines for the operations of the SDF were reviewed.

The review stated that the remunerated daily placements by banks and discount houses at the SDF should not exceed N7.5bn, which should be remunerated at the SDF rate at 10 per cent per annum.

Any deposit by a bank or discount house in excess of N7.5bn must not be remunerated, it added.
